Costa Rei (South Sardinia)

Some information on the resort of Costa Rei...

Costa Rei (South Sardinia)

Costa Rei is a seaside resort of Muravera. It was developed into a holiday village thanks to the entrepreneurial skills of two Belgian and a German construction businessmen. Costa Rei is the costal gem of the Sarrabus-Gerrei area and its seaside, extending along the south-east coast of Sardinia, is truly one of the best in the world.

The resort of Costa Rei is surrounded by a fresh and aromatic maquis and by green hills which gently slope down towards the blue crystalline sea adorned by a gorgeous beach of bright-white sand. The Costa Rei beach, unique in its kind, stretches for about 18 km.

If you look at the horizon when you are on the beach, you'll see the island of Sepentara and its 7th century tower of San Luigi. Close to Serpentara, which stretches up to the district of Villasimius. Also there is another island called Isola dei Cavoli, which is part of the geo-marine park.

The rocks that adorn the beaches of Costa Rei are quite fascinating to see. Amongst them one of the most charming is the rock of Peppino, a 30 meter long block of light coloured granite. The rock of Peppino is shaped like a whale and, thanks to its proximity to the beach, has created a small natural pool which is ideal for a relaxing bathe or for young children.

Costa Rei - Sant'Elmo beach

Another light coloured granite rock not to be missed in the beaches of Costa Rei is the Sany'Elmo. The rock of Sant'Elmo, not far from the coast, is characterized by a small cave underneath the surface of the sea which can be explored while diving.

Behind some of the beaches you can find some rare little woods of red junipers: centuries-old trees that are typical of Sardinian coasts. The peaks further away are the mountains of Gerrei and of the natural park of the Sette Fratelli. They are rich in woods and archaeological sites and are considered the green lung of the south-east coast.

From Costa Rei you can easily reach the most beautiful beaches of the south-east coast of the Island: Santa Giusta, Cala Sinzias, Cala Pira, Villasimius and Solanas.

Close to the resort, you can visit some distinctive Sardinian villages whose economy is fundamentally based on agriculture, farming and local crafts. There you can taste and purchase several typical Sardinian goods.

The small but lively town centre provides different opportunities to the tourists. On Saturdays you can't miss the charming little market, where you can find typical products, clothing and handicrafts. As far as nightlife is concerned, near Costa Rei there are two disco clubs where you can have a good time late in the summer evenings.

In the vast district of Muravera and Castiadas, the fascinating resort of Costa Rei is undoubtedly the most popular one, thanks to its numerous charming beaches and picturesque bays which provide the visitors the perfect location for a peaceful holiday. Every year several tourists are attracted by its uncontaminated nature, its white beaches and colourful sea, with light blue, turquoise, emerald and dark blue waters. Visitors are also aware that they will find the facilities and entertainment they need for their summer holiday to be special.

Costa Rei is beautiful during summer time but, with its unique colours, is even better during springtime and autumn. Thanks to its nice weather, you can sunbathe, walk in the countryside and cycle through interesting archaeological sites.
